Research Says: PHONICS are GOOD! (duh). There is no "whole language" without Parts.

So much wasted time with “wars” between “whole language” and “phonics”.

Geez. I have no patience for that false flag. Phonics, like Repetition!, is Good for Learning, Good for brains — Good for muscles, ask any athelete! OF COURSE it’s not the ONLY thing! Technique, skills, aptitude and PLEASURE are all important too. Don’t “Drill and Kill”, “Drill and gain Skill”, then rest and enjoy. Phonics Drills are Good! They teach skills and discrete knowledge that is NECESSARY to Fluent Reading. Ok. ‘nuff. Here is a link to a long good article on the latest incarnation of WH vs Ph wars in EdSource by Karen D’Souza.

AND HERE’S MY FAVORITE BIT FROM IT:
“This is a civil rights issue because people are being systematically denied access to their civil liberties and their opportunities because they’re illiterate,” said Kareem Weaver, member of the Oakland NAACP Education Committee and co-founder of the literacy advocacy group FULCRUM. “This is a social justice issue.” Weaver is prominently featured in the documentary “The Right to Read.”
